Intensive cures & Help Clinic Sri Lanka

Kumuduni - Ayurvedamedical Health & Help Clinic Sri Lanka

Personally:

Born in the southwest of Sri Lanka as a Singhalese in Panadura, I am still rooted in my country of origin. Every year I spend some time there with part of my family and work in Ayurvedic medicine on site.
The small clinic is a project so close to my heart, which has developed over many years.

Not far from my hometown Panadura, also in the southwest of Sri Lanka, by the sea in Beruwala, we have leased for 30 years, land and an old house (built in the dutch colonial time more than 120 years ago), which is now renovated and converted into a small Ayurvedicmedical-Health & Helpclinic. We are working hard to make this heart cherished- project more flourish.
As an helping-project it already works, as a clinic it needs you!

History:
"Kumuduni-Ayurveda" Doctorsplace for Ayurvedamedicine & -Therapy has leased for 30 years the old house and land in Beruwala, from Sri Lanka's largest indigenous self-empowerment organisation "Sarvodaya Shramadhana movement" (translated: Wellbeing/Energy Workforce for All:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarvodaya-Shramadana-Bewegung ).
Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne founded the Sarvodaya Shramadana organisation according to Mahatma Gandhi's principles in 1958, some years after Sri Lanka got independent of the colonialpower. Sarvodaya is today continued by Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne. Kumuduni personally knows the Sarvodaya very well as a family member from her early age and later also worked extensively at Sarvodaya for bringing up the childrens home and teenage mothers home aswell have done fundraising for kindergardens in Mullaitivu for children of the war (in former war zone) and she was working during the Tsunami and the war in modern medical emergency services there.
The house in Beruwala was donated to the Sarvodaya a long time ago for projects for physically disabled children, but had now been empty for several years. Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne and Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne himself had introduced Kumuduni to this old house and land after she personally herself introduced her own concept of Ayurvedamedicine - intensive treatment combined as a help-aid-project to the Sarvodaya organisation. The concept is: Local patients and Kumuduni's patients from the west who suffering of cronical illnesses could get treated intensively for several weeks in this Ayurvedamedical-Health & Helpclinic. The special target is the combination with the aid project for disadvantaged people of Sri Lanka who need fair jobs, want to work and need education. So it is a social-and trainingcenter for people with special needs and disadvantaged people of the country. Today the old house is revived as a therapy house with the Ayurvedicmedicine and -philosophy. In the year 2023 the renovation could been completed and the patients houses are built fully new. So we where able to start in a small way. We hope to be able to implement more employee accommodation, the doctorsquarters and more organic farming next year.

In the attachment and in the slideshow you will find photos of these constructions.

Our special offer starting End of December 2023 (details and prices below): There is a lot of surrounding with tropical medicinal plants, flowers, vegetables, fruits and birds. There is space to relax in nature and where you can walk around after the treatments. Although bathing and sunbathing are contraindicated in the intensive treatments according to classical Ayurvedic medicine, there is the possibility of taking a walk in the evening outside the therapy times by the sea, which is only 1-2 minutes away from us.
The Ayurvedamedical Health & Helpclinic is a silent place of recovery and peace as Ayurvedamedicine is a holistic system which we like to respect. The walkingmeditationpath will bring you around herbs and medical plants.

Beruwala is also a lively fishing village where people from different ethnicities (Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians / Sinhalese, Tamils, Moors and Burghers) live.

After the classical Ayurvedic anamnesis and diagnosis at my clinics (doctors place) in Zurich or in Wil/SG, you can experience your intensive cure of at least 3-4 weeks (more weeks possible according the indication) with me and my team in Beruwala in Sri Lanka from the end of December on.
We are addressing patients who are already patients from the doctorsplace of Kumuduni in Switzerland who would like to take a time out from their daily life in Europe, who having chronically complains and like to get treated in a complex holistic way with the traditional classical Ayurvedamedicine system.
In practice, the full treatment with all the classic 6 methods of Ayurvedamedicine, especially for chronic complaints/illnesses shows particular positive effects. Intensive treatments (whether cleansing or restorative) once a year help to strengthen the immune system and counteract various diseases.

I myself found a bigger clinic for Ayurvedic treatments in Switzerland to be unsuitable for me personally, as I feel Ayurvedic medicine in the country of origin to be more authentically natural and it also suits better to myself.

You will be treated cordially around the clock with all 6 methods of Ayurvedamedicine:

ahara - nutritional medicine ayurvedic-organic meals, adapted and served to your constitution and complaints, illnesses.
shamana and shodana - specific body treatments according to the ailments, 1-2 times a day, depending on the prescription.
shodana - Pancakarma - a cleansing procedure depending on the indication
dravyaguna vijnana - ayurvedic medication according to prescription (usually
powdered, in tablet form, decoctions, medicinal ghees etc.)
sattvavajaya - ayurvedic philosophical - & psychotherapeutical
consultations from ayurvedic psychotherapy with Kumuduni
svasthavrtta/ dinacharya - classic health-promoting rituals and daily treatments tailored to you and your environment in harmony with the laws of nature. You will receive your individual Ayurvedic daily routines personally (in your own language) and in a comprehensible way.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to take part in gentle Kungfu, Thai Chi, Qigong and Yoga training as well as a targeted breathing and meditation programme in the Buddhist tradition. You will receive a daily pulse and tongue diagnosis according to classical Ayurvedicmedicine as well as short diagnostic conversations 1:1 with Kumuduni. This in the language you know from home (Sinhala, Swissgerman, German or English).

In the early evening, smaller lectures are offered from time to time, where you can learn more about Ayurveda medicine.

Why us:
We deliberately want to stay small but have a good quality. We have right now 4-6 patient beds available. We treating local patients and the patients from the doctors place in Switzerland and are a non-profit aid project for disadvantaged people of Sri Lanka.
Professional: In Sri Lanka Kumuduni is well connected and can count on the input of some of the most renowned Ayurvedic professors and specialists, work with them and continue to learn from them. Due to her former higher studies in Ayurvedicmedicine and today's further education in Sri Lanka, India and later in Europe, she is able to offer her patients well-founded and authentic consultations and treatments, which are based on a broad international Ayurvedic medical knowledge.
After your intensive treatment, you will be prepared and advised for the return journey and the practical implementation in Europe, so that further sustainable health will be possible. Since Kumuduni knows the living conditions, culture and food in Sri Lanka as well as in Europe, these consultations are elementary and help afterwards, for example, to continue to implement and integrate the nutritional therapy, Ayurvedic rituals in your daily life, practically back home in your country of origin. In a way, you can intensify the already existing therapy which you got prescribed in Switzerland now in Sri Lanka.
You will be treated daily preventively or, if desired and indicated, invasively, curatively by a small but authentic team in a country of origin with a long tradition of Ayurvedamedicine.
Even though Ayurveda is increasingly offered in the countries of origin and also in Europe, it is obvious that wellness cures are often mixed with professional Ayurveda, sold as such or diffusely transmitted. Officially there is no wellness in Ayurveda, but in Ayurvedic medicine there are sophisticated concepts for maintaining the health of the tissues. We do not offer wellness cures. - The focus is on sustainable health promotion based on classical trad. Ayurvedamedicine (a classified, proven, traditional system of medicine recognised by the WHO with defined methods as well as its own diagnostic system, which is able to treat chronic illnesses). No tourists are accepted who just want to experience a short massage experience or wellness while passing through. It is particularly important to us that this valuable cultural asset is conveyed with sufficient respect and dignity as well as the tradition of the local people and the country. Ayurvedic medicine is everyday medicine in Sri Lanka and is often used by financially poor people. We also live by the motto of “less is more” and forego luxury. Nevertheless, we built and standardized the familiar clinic in such a way that European patients can feel comfortable during the treatment process.

The classical Ayurvedic diagnosis & the anamnesis ideally already in Switzerland, is a prerequisite for any physical and psychotherapeutical treatment.

The treatment will be individually tailored to you, depending on the indication, according to the scheme of Ayurvedic medical criteria. Due to the complex treatment strategies of Ayurvedamedicine and in order to alleviate diseases and complaints with its methods, so that sustainable health and relief of symptoms is achieved, a stay of at least 3-4 weeks is necessary. Also consider arrival time, the climate and the culture changes etc. From an Ayurvedic perspective, human being is always in interaction with your environment and surroundings and you are nature. The body and the emotions needs longer than your mind.

Complaints and diseases do not appear overnight and therefore time is needed to be treated and alleviated.

The other philosophy behind it:
Based on Kumuduni's personal history, it is a great concern of hers to promote disadvantaged people in her country of origin and to employ them under fair conditions. Due to multifactorial causes, targeted and individual support is still a big problem all in the countries of origin of Ayurveda. For the majority of the population there is neither insurance, nor holidays or off-days, nor unemployment funds, nor old age provisions for all, nor clear labour rights and mostly no correct employment contracts or conditions in which the concerns of the workers are represented. Women without husbands are dependent on their parental home for life and adult children have to provide alone the care for their parents, single mothers are often discriminated against and can hardly provide food for themselves and their child. Education systems, such as a secure apprenticeship and the ability to live independently after completing an apprenticeship, are difficult or even impossible. Crippling unemployment, too little earnings, has increased sharply in the country in recent years. There is a lack of various infrastructures and around a quarter of the population earns less than 15,000 rupees per month, which is the equivalent of around CHF 38. Although the cost of living is cheaper than in Europe, it is far too low in Sri Lanka to lead a somewhat independent life, let alone support your family.

Despite many difficult circumstances and the economic crisis, the millennia-old great knowledge of traditional Ayurveda is still available in Sri Lanka like a priceless, valuable treasure and resource. The applications of the complex formulas and the procedures of Ayurvedamedicine are well known there and the medicinal plants locally are more numerous and easier to obtain. The use of this system of medicine is naturally anchored in the population and in the state health system.

In countries like Sri Lanka, even if the employees smile, it does not mean that they are actually feeling well. Because smiling is a basic rule in this culture. We want to enable an authentic smile for our employees, by giving financially poorer and disadvantaged people a job opportunity and fair employment conditions. Employees are personally trained by Kumuduni and the growing team to contribute to the welfare of others. This requires Kumuduni to do a lot of work to embrace both cultures which couldnt be more different. This way the employees can experience that they are important and can pursue a task that is needed. Every person has strengths and resources, whether financially poor or rich. Kumuduni knows personally these two "worlds" (poor and rich) which are opposite "cultures" and can therefore work with them and mediate it. The countries of origin have experienced a painful past through colonial rule at that time and it is important that this is not repeated. This means that in this clinic all people are treated equally. The people are still affected by the losses of the former civil war, the tsunami and the measures against Sars Cov-2, the national bankruptcy July 2022 and the related economic problems.
Small businesses that plant and cultivate organic food are supported and paid by us.
With your stay you contribute to the fact that people who are disadvantaged also get a chance for an education and a better and more independent future in their own country.

An essential difference is that it is not the tourist offices that mediate, but through the clinics (doctors place) in Switzerland itself you can find the way to your intensive cure. Kumuduni is there to answer your questions personally. If you wish, your follow-up treatment can be continued in Kumuduni's clinics in Switzerland from March onwards. This ensures the sustainability of your Ayurvedic medical treatment. You do not have to change your doctor, but benefit from professional continuity.

This small clinic thus distinguishes itself as an aid project. For the price you pay as a patient, the explicit support of disadvantaged people in Sri Lanka is guaranteed.

You need a tourist visa for Sri Lanka and a return flight. You will be picked up from the airport and driven back to the departure airport, and you will receive individual counselling throughout your stay.

With booking your flight and get the visa we have the offer of Kumudunis friend Mr. Basnayaka who is holder of a small Srilankan-swiss travelagency. So we can give you a package with flight and visa and you do not have to concern about it. If you wish to book by yourself we will also come and pick you at the airport.

Special offer: Since this project has suffered greatly due to obstacles such as the Covid measures, as well as the great economic crisis last year July 2022, Kumuduni and her team had to let go off a lot first in order to start again. Now we need your support to get through with our small non-profit business. Since the employees also have to be trained well, we depend on your feedback. For the new start, we offer more favourable conditions and would like your personal opinion on food, accommodation, consultations, treatments, medicines, exercises program and mindfulness therapies etc. at the end of your stay. So a week with full board accommodation including all the consultations and included all treatments of everyday, 45 min. per day mindfulness and Kung-Fu/ThaiChi/Yoga training, as well as 3 times daily menus of the Ayurvedic cuisine tailored to you, costs 1000.- CHF/per week per person.
